SPORTS MEDICINE ACUPUNCTURE
"Sports Medicine is the assessment and treatment of orthopedic conditions using modern biomedical evaluation and Traditional Chinese Medical diagnostic techniques.
This is a clinically significant and successful treatment strategy for musculoskeletal pain based on the neural relationship affecting opposing muscle pairs and their innervating spinal segments.
We use acupuncture to precisely locate and needle muscle motor points. Using acupuncture with more precise motor point locations, we increase range of motion, help patients regain muscle strength and get them back to their sport and/or activities of daily living more quickly than using other methods."
We treat using these steps*:

We use acupuncture to precisely locate and needle muscle motor points. We treat using these steps*:
- Patient history - onset, mechanism of injury, pain locations and types, Chinese tongue and pulse diagnosis and palpation of tender affected areas (called 'ashi points' in Traditional Chinese Medicine). We ask patients to bring any orthopedic reports from their physicians.
- ROM and MMT - we conduct Range of Motion (ROM) and Manual muscle Testing (MMT). This takes about 10 - 15 minutes as we look up and down the kinetic chain looking for muscle imbalances that may have led to the injury.
- Orthopedic Evaluation Testing - we assess the mechanism of injury and apply evaluative techniques that determine the stability of the musculoskeletal system.
- Comprehensive Chinese Diagnosis - we give (and explain) the patient their diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medical terms.
- Treatment Plan - we include both short-term and long-term goals (i.e., decrease in pain. increase in ROM and muscle strength, return to postural balance, return to their sport and/or activities of daily living, and give them the number and frequency of visits and follow-up care.
